yup clans aren't for everyone... I enjoy the competitive side of playing... but there really is a clan for everyone, social platoon only clans some stick to low tiers, others mid, others high, some all...

some clans focus on strongholds... these are competative play that run in tier6 7v7 (I think), tier8 10v10, and tier10 15v15... as you play you earn resources and once you have enough the clan can set to either earn extra xp or credits.

then you have tourney clans... they are in it for the fun and/or the gold...

at the top end you've got clans that are around for clan wars... this is end game/top tier stuff... tier10 tanks required... usually 3-6 depending on the clan

there are also clans that as mentioned focus a lot on training room stuff... these can vary the teach casual players get better or even for competitive teams to train up other/newer players for the meta.

you can find a mix of all of these...

I didn't realize they required headsets. That's not happening lol. I may not progress beyond tier V or VI. Beyond that it seems to become a war of the wallets. I get enough of that in every day life.

I'm in the same boat, I don't know what 90% of the stuff on WoT is about, I just hop into "random battle" and do my best.

Put the 105 on it and spam HE rounds only......you ruin lots of light tanks days....

not moving beyond tier5/6 is a great idea for at least a while... like I said I was 5-6k before getting to tier6 and at that point had my doubts of ever working towards a tier10... but you don't have to be a wallet warrior to play higher... there are a few tier8 tanks that I lose money on regularly but that is because I choose to throw a lot of prem ammo because of the poor pen of the regular rounds... you can make money even at higher tiers... premium account helps that out but not necessary... you can easily "grind credits" at tier5/6 even without a prem tank.

play what you enjoy :)... the nice thing of mid tiers is it's easy to get a bunch of tier6 tanks

Played long enough today to get my second free garage slot. Also took advantage of the free premium and 1/2 off equipment to buy shell rammers, coated optics and gun laying devices for all the tanks I'm planning to "keep". Got my win % back within a few tenths of 50%. Not a bad day given I only had a short time to play. Back to work tomorrow.

Just had an incredible battle with my Jumbo.

We spawned at A, they spawned at B.

Looking down the 2 column there is a crest in the valley at the line between E and F. There is a jumbo sized rock near the right 1/3 of E2, you can see some dark shrubbery near it.

I take off toward the valley with three (I think) other greens. Everyone else heads to the city.

I park my Jumbo behind that rock and angle in so that only part of my turret was exposed, and that part is friggin' thick! Sadly, I only have the stock 75mm gun.

Three heavy tanks, three mediums and one tank destroyer came rolling up the valley. One of our faster mediums spotted them, shat himself then came back to our side of the crest. We all opened up as soon as we saw a hint of red turrets.

I took a hit to my optics and used my repair kit. A team mate at my 4 0'clock gets fragged. I keep taking hit after hit after hit, all the while glancing at my health and noting that it hasn't moved since taking the initial damage. I whittle down an enemy heavy's health to 3% and he falls back. A medium takes his spot and gets fragged. The tank destroyer rolls up and angles in on me. We trade shots, neither of us able to find a spot weak enough on the other to penetrate.

Another heavy sticks his nose out and gets killed in short order. A few ricochets from me murder one of my team mates. That TD decides to make a run over the crest.

Suddenly I take a shot to the rear of my tank. I glance at the score and notice it's 6-14. I'm the last greeny left.

As the TD tries to come around my flank I back up the hill at my 7 0'clock and try to track him. Somehow I find a weak spot and he explodes. A few more reds have joined the party and it's now five on one.

I died with my Jumbo hulled down, trying in vain to pen their armor with my puny 75.

Awesome battle.

Forgot to mention, I took 60 shots total and bounced 50 of them. I felt like friggin' Iron Man...then I died. lol

real quick... on that map the valley push rarely works as it usually just turns into a stale mate... if you send to many you don't have enough at key other parts of the map and pubbies are rarely willing to push over the hill in force which is required if you are going to win a valley push... also the valley is considered swamp so even quick moving tanks are very sluggish so even if you win a valley push it's easy for the team to get you as you are trying to cap or flank around into the city as well (done this to many teams who've tried)... although there have been a few times I've had it work which included in chat while i'm top tier med or heavy "hmm haven't done a valley push in a while... who's with me?" the key is you have to be willing to push and the rest of those with you do as well... which in pubs isn't often (in a platoon it's much easier)

... the key spots are somewhere around e4 for vision (scouts, good view range meds), big gun TD can sit a little further back on the road for the start to get some shots on what the scout lights as the other team moves towards the city... this is all reasons that when you move up in tier that you want to stay on the a/k line as you move into the city... goto the city if you are a heavy... in a med I sit back on the middle road then goto city to support/flank once the mid road is clear/safe... depending on the flow you can also push up the mid road, if you are uncontested you can get lovely shots onto their heavies in the city while they play peek a boo with your heavies... you either get a good bit of dmg or cause so much pandemonium in the city that your heavies have a much easier time.

on the valley, you need at most 3 people... ideally a TD sitting mid way back, an arty sitting back and a scout/med doing quick peeks to light... a group of three working together can stop 1/2 the other team from pushing over as they are constantly scared of being the one to get nailed...

for the "turret being the only part showing" that is what we call "hull down"... sadly the upgraded turret on the jumbo is much softer :( if you enjoy that hull down play wait till you get the t29, it's one of if not the best hull down tanks in the game and can go against tanks much higher tier than it when hull down... but even with weaker armor hull down is a strong position as you are a very small target to hit.

next... NEVER NEVER NEVER use a repair kit on your vision/optics... save it for something important, tracks, turret, ammo rack etc... the vision device will repair itself in about 10 seconds and your view range will be back to normal...

for the td... sounds like you ammo racked him... it's so random but when it happens you just giggle... especially on a normal tank because the turret goes flying.

sounds like you're getting the hang of the game and enjoying yourself :)... I haven't played but one night in waiting for over the last week... been moving and hope to have the gaming computer ready tonight... we'll see what happens

I have just been playing quick battles to get used to the interface and what I can and can't get away with.

Am I the only one who tries to communicate before the battle?

Most of the time these idiots just run around bumping into each other. I use the text menu, maybe I need to get my headset out

In reply to Flight Service: That's low tier battles for you. The great part is if you actually slow down, learn how to play the game and don't go blindly trashing around, you can pretty much be the grim reaper. You'll still lose a ton of battles because its a team game, but at least you'll have fun doing it. I wouldn't bother with a headset unless you're going to do regular platoon/clan games.

the com only works if you are platooned or have another 3rd party com system (team speak being the big one)... can be beneficial but only useful if platooned.

as kazoo was talking... if you have a 50% w/r you are in the top 63% of players (not sure how that works... but that is how it's put on wotlabs)

low tiers are chaos... it starts to even out around tier5 although once you move up to higher tiers you see a lot more chaos in the mid tiers as well, just not quite as bad... but using the chat for communication isn't a big thing, depending on the team makeup I might ping the map, if I'm scouting I do it a lot more often... on lakeville (the map posted above) when I'm a scout I almost always post "scoutting mid road"... there are a few bushes I can safely sit in... i've had epic games where my team just nuked everything passing (few TD sat behind me a bit on the hill of the mid road so they could see what I lit)... other times you just get some nice spots letting the team know what was going to town (on that map if you go the bottom/top line into the city the other side of the lake is out of render range so you can't "see" the tanks even if spotted... but this sort of team work doesn't seem to happen much until mid tiers at earliest... and even then you have so many people that are scared to make a move a prime example is prokhorovka... tanks will sit so far back on the west sides that even if something gets lit they can't shoot because they are out of render range... also you'll see tanks sitting in the NE corne on the little back hill... that is useful for some big hit TD but meds and heavies are far more useful further up... but this knowledge comes from time played and trying to get better... watch what better players are doing, watch youtube vids... there is usually a reason they go to certian locations almost every time they play that map in that sort of tank...

oh BTW... I've mentioned render range a few times.. if you don't already consider downloading a mod pack that has this info in your mini map...

for starters I'd suggest checking out quickybabys as it's a very simple mod pack https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXkyk_cv1Tg

I don't really suggest activating XVM... at least for a while as it can easily frustrate players, both seeing how they are statistically and how bad their team mates are... or even worse seeing that you have a supposed 13% chance of wining...

use it for the additional info mostly in the mini map, the draw distance/render range of other tanks, max view range, and your view range... it can really help you learn to abuse view range if used properly with a good camo crew with good view range...

if you haven't caught on I'm not a heavy player... I primary am in scouts and meds...

Did the Jumbo get nerfed?

My fail rate went through the roof. I may as well be driving my standard M4 with as often as I get one or two shotted. Tried playing my T1, LOL Tractor and MS-1 this morning but it seemed like all of the reds were fully upgraded and shooting gold. 75% had camo paint which is 50 gold, I think.

Not much fun today. I have around 600 battles and my win rate went from 50.3% to 50.08%
