iPhone holder for bike

We do some sporty sport touring. I currently have a older garmin GPS mounted with a Ram ball mount. I can hardly see it and the map is probably 6 years out of date.

I was thinking of just using my iPhone. I have Bluetooth communicators with my wife. I don't listen to music or talk on the phone, but I could use the Waze and GPS alerts.

this looks cool, but I am super paranoid about dropping my phone.

Anyone try it? not too worried about rain, I pull my GPS when it starts to sprinkle.

would also be cool if I could mount it to my bicycle, but I may get a phone bag with some storage for keys and money for the bike.

I have that exact mount, usually use it in my track car to hold the phone for datalogging purposes. I had the phone (Oneplus One, iPhone 6+) fall out once when I didn't quite put it in the holder "just so" when reaching over to it after belting myself in the car.

I've owned the mount for several years and never had another issue with it. Although I think on a bike I'd prefer to have something like a waterproof-ish case with a RAM ball on the back, but that's mostly for weatherproofing.

I use that exact mount, haven't had any problems using a variety of phones on it. Usually of the smaller variety though, no phablets for me so maybe size is an issue

I have this one because when I'd wallop a frost heave with the X kind shown in the 1st post... the phone would come flying out. It got saved by the power cord once. The second time... it cost me.

This one is very secure as long as you mount it with the spring loaded end up, or sideways.

That is what I am worried about. I have hit some bumps that I swear lifted both wheels off the ground and have landed some wheelies that could pop the phone out.

I looked at the RokForm, but I hate thick phone cases and by he time I added the case and the mount, it was close to $150.

I have heard (no personal experience) that the x-grip mount works poorly on motorcycles. Probably due to the vibration.

UPDATE - OK - I bought the Ram mount linked in the first post.

it really is stable. but the biggest surprise is how great the iPhone is vs the GPS. I use my phone in the car (a convertible) for Waze and Spotify, but the holder I have keeps the phone pretty far away and not the best angle. I can see the phone clearly, whereas with the Garmin Nuvi, I can’t see the screen the majority of the daylight hours.

The downside is that where we like to ride, there is no cell coverage. I went to WV and almost immediately lost cell service. The Waze must have some maps in memory as it was able to show the road I was on, but there were no cross roads showing up, just a white screen with the road and river next to the road.

The biggest bummer is the lack of POIs when without cell service. I use my GPS to find fuel as I have a 80 mile range when having fun. That means I have to keep the GPS with me (and hope that the 5 year old maps point me to a gas station that is still in business).

I need to get one of these too.

I have a Lifeproof case on my phone (although it didn't keep from cracking the screen) but I'd love to use it as my GPS.
