So would there really be a issue using a car coil over on a dirt bike shock? I measured the spring off my CRF450 and it's REALLY close in size to a 2.5"id x 10"L spring.
The only real difference is the CRF spring is 10.5" long.
A QA1 spring is $50 while a "motorcycle" spring is $110ish.
I need a 6.9 kg/mm which works out to 386 lbs/in.

I don't see an issue as long as you can set the sag still or make a spacer collar.

Make sure you check the length for coil bind when comparing the two.
The auto one may be longer when coil bind occurs so it will not compress as far, reducing the available travel.

I just checked QA1's website and they do offer high travel springs but only in 350 or 400. I'd really prefer 375 but might end up with the 400.
I wish they'd list collapsed length but they don't so I might have to take a gamble and just get one.

Well, I sit corrected, I just checked Summit's website and they do offer a 375 lb/in high travel spring for $38.
I'll report back my findings.
See if you have a local dirt track shop, they might be able to tell you the bind height if they actually deal in that brand.

check on Face Book page flat track swap and shop there's always springs and shocks for 450's listed
Weigh them - maybe the bike springs are priced that way because they are lighter alloy?

Actually ran into a QA1 rep at a local performance expo over the weekend. I asked about the collapsed length and he said they are generally about 50% of the total length.
Measured my shock when I got home and we should be golden.
If the difference is weight, I'm not worried about it. I'm coming off a XR400 and am a big boy to begin with.
Couldn't find a flat track swap and shop on FB. Is it called something else? Found a Flat Track live.

I think Bob Weis had a shock and spring up this weekend...
Nice guy one hell of a machinist (custom adjustable offset triple trees) and racer.
