Saw on garagejournal that Lincoln is offering a rebate that puts the price for this welder at $999. I've been thinking about getting a MIG welder and teaching myself to weld. Looked at a highly reviewed HOBART model for $499 from Amazon and TSC. Is this Lincoln that much better? Anyone used one? Is it even a good deal? Thanks!

(I am in no way affiliated with Lincoln Electric - I'm just a nerd that likes to buy tools).

What hobart are you comparing it to? Also, Hobart is basically the debadged version of Miller.

In reply to Ram50Ron :

I had been looking on Amazon at the Hobart Handler 140 or 190. (~$500 and $800 respectively)

I didn't know that about the relationship between Hobart and Miller.

Again I'm a total welding novice and would be looking to practice and hopefully get skilled enough to do some fabrication work around the farm and on vehicles. Just wondering if the more expensive Lincoln would be better to help me with setting up for different materials since I don't have that knowledge base and if it might "grow" with me better as I gain skills.

The Lincoln you linked is a multi process welder, Mig, DC tig and stick. so it is quite a bit more machine that the others. I have only welded with one at a trade show and the autoset up on the Lincoln is great for beginner welders. The only disadvantage I see is DC tig can't weld aluminum but you can use a spool gun on the mig side.  At that price the Lincoln is only $100 more than the harbor freight  https://www.harborfreight.com/omnipro-220-multiprocess-welder-with-120240-volt-input-63621.html

Apparently you can also buy it on Ebay using an Ebay coupon when they are available.  It was another $100 off.

It has been discussed here:
