2017 Acura MDX Sport Hybrid new car reviews

Acura’s MDX marries a fuel-saving hybrid system with a 257-horsepower V6. When that internal combustion power is combined with the electric motor’s power, it makes about 321 horsepower. Oh and it also features lots of seating room with three rows. So does a livable, practical SUV have to be a gas-guzzler?

Overall, the MDX was solid. Why? One word: hybrid.

The styling doesn't exactly stand out on the inside or the outside. The performance isn't overpowering. It isn't filled with huge touch-screen displays and crazy sound systems.

But it's a mid-sized SUV that can get 26 mpg in the city, all while offering three rows of seats and ample cargo room. To put that into perspective, the gas-only version of the MDX is quoted at 19 mpg in the city. It looks like Acura has worked their way around the the main downside to owning an SUV.

If I needed a big SUV, one with three rows of seats, yeah, I’d check out the MDX. The steering is a little soft but that’s kind of a point. It’s built for the masses—well, the masses who want those extra Acura touches.
