Registration just opened for next fall’s $2000 Challenge, and we already have our first entrant: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back Patrick Guzowski, a cornerstone of the event.

I'm bringing the ex-Cobra Kai 1994 Mustang GT,” he tells us. “I've always loved the sounds that car made. I am not a Mustang guy, but the way the car sounds and handles coupled with the offer Tod made to me and that I have a lot going on personally this year, I needed something that was a good running starting point.

Mark Lasota and Tod Byram have been also Challenge regulars for years. Together they operated as Cobra Kai Speed Shoppe. Mark passed away earlier this year yet will remain part of the event–for the friendships made, memories created, and legacy left. The event’s new valve cover track is a gift from his estate.

I have always felt this car could be an overall contender with a little more time, and I want to get it up at the top to keep the memory of Mark Lasota going strong at the Challenge,” Patrick continues. “The plan is to make more power, lots of homemade aero, cosmetics, roll bar/cage, a proper safe race seat and drag tires to be able to put the newfound power down, and get better at concours presentation.”

The Grassroots Motorsports $2000 Challenge presented by CRC Industries and eBay Motors returns to Central Florida’s Gainesville Raceway October 23-24, 2020. Follow all the chatter online.
