The place where penny-pinching and extreme speed meet, the Grassroots Motorsports $2000 Challenge Presented by Tire Rack, starts tomorrow, May 27. Are you ready?
Here’s a quick rundown of what competitors and spectators alike can expect:
The gates of Gainesville Raceway open at 8 a.m. sharp. Teams will then have a little over an hour to prepare themselves for the first event of the weekend, the autocross session, which runs from 9:15 a.m. until 4 p.m. Next up is the drag racing session, which starts at 6 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. The track gates will then close at 10 p.m. to everyone who is not camping onsite.
The following day, May 28, the concours pavilion opens for move-in starting at 9:15 a.m. just after the track gates open at 9 a.m. Judging starts at 10 a.m. and continues until 2 p.m. Also on Sunday is the $2000 Challenge swap meet and the free Hagerty Cars & Caffeine, both of which start at 9 a.m.
At 2 p.m., Daniel Cummings, last year’s winner of the $2000 Challenge and builder of the LMP360, will be holding a Q&A session. An hour later, at 3 p.m., is the awards ceremony, where we get to find out just how fast you can go without spending more than $2000.
Questions? Comments? Concerns? Stick around for the competitor town hall at 4 p.m.
Also, don’t forget about the open track day at the Florida International Rally & Motorsport Park on Monday, May 29.
