Is blowing up an engine the perfect excuse for a swap to something newer? When forum user Racerjiggs and team detonated the 2.3-liter Lima engine in their 1970 Ford Cortina GT race car, they made the decision to swap in a more modern drivetrain: a 2.3-liter, four-cylinder EcoBoost crate engine.

The swap didn’t happen overnight, though, as it took a year of selling unnecessary parts and equipment to fund the new engine.

After a little fab work in the engine bay, though, the Cortina’s new heart was in place.

The next big upgrade on the list? Fitting the rear wing from an LMP3 prototype race car the team recently acquired.
