Ford Got the New Mustang Right

We have aways liked Mustangs, but our love of past Mustangs has always left us feeling a bit tawdry. Sure they have been fast, and while we love the bad ass, rough and tumble feel of all these earlier Mustangs. In all honesty, they were a bit rude and crude to be considered world beaters.

The Mustang is crude no more. From the thoroughly thought out, fully independent suspension, to the stunning 310 horsepower, 2.3 liter EcoBoost—or ground pounding 435 horsepower 5.0 liter V8—the Mustang is a real car now. Build quality, ride comfort and ergonomics have also all taken huge leaps forward. The 2015 Camaro might now be beneath it.

Pitting this Mustang against the new BMW M4 might be a better comparison. Yes, that is a stretch, but this new Mustang is that good. From its straight forward, and very comfortable interior—okay, maybe not quite as nice as an M3—to its completely restyled looks that are thoroughly modern while maintaining the most important Mustang styling traits, this Mustang has what we have been looking for.

Stay tuned, as we will have a full report in an upcoming issue of Grassroots Motorsports. And speaking of comparison testing, we have an upcoming muscle car test planned as we would like to track test the Mustang against the competition, and maybe a BMW or two as well.

Make sure your subscription is up to date, as you won’t want to miss this. Ford has launched an absolute nuke attack at America’s, and perhaps the world’s muscle car scene and we will be there to see who wins this war.

Finally, ford raises the level of sophistication on the car and gives the car a proper rear suspension. After many BMWs there may finally be a ford in my future!
