Reminder to self, get to the track early on Sunday.
Didn’t finish your build in time or not quite ready to race this year? You can still be a part of the Grassroots Motorsports $2000 Challenge presented by Tire Rack–and it won’t cost you a dime.
Our friends at Hagerty will be hosting a Cars & Caffeine on Sunday morning, October 23, during the $2000 Challenge concours. Drive your cool car, enjoy some free coffee and donuts, and check out what the rest of the competitors have built.
Registration is free and includes spectator entry (Sunday only) for everybody in your car. Attendees must pre-register due to our limit of 500 cars.
Register for the Hagerty Cars & Caffeine here, and learn more about the $2000 Challenge at 2000challenge.com.
The $2000 Challenge is presented by Tire Rack, in association with CRC Industries, Summit Racing and Miller Electric, with trophies from Lamin-x, TrakkRats, CravenSpeed and ACI Automotive.
This is exciting. I hope it brings some more attention to the event.
I'll have my Challenge car at the Hagerty Garage+Social Chicago facility for the Meet in the Middle Micro car show Aug 14th. I hope I don't leave to much oil on their floor.
Also, from our friends over at Classic Motorsports, how to clean up your car before a cars and coffee–basically, a one-hour detail.
In reply to Stampie :
If you scatter your engine during the autocross, car will be in both locations at the same time
I just checked the $2000 challenge website. The really important question I want answered is will the following be available to concourse participants:
"enjoy some free coffee and donuts"
Yes! The free coffee and donuts will be open to all.
Also, if we hit the 500 car cap for Cars & Caffeine, this is going to be a seriously large crowd!

Hmm. That sounds like a challenge.
I have a fresh batch of sawzall blades.
I'm considering the option to camp at the track this year. How's that going to work logistically with the car meet? Will there be a designated area for GRM campers? Will we have to be moving our camp before sunrise on sunday?
In reply to Lof8 - Andy :
I'm working on the event map now, but you won't have to move and I'll try to get campers in as convenient of a location as possible. It's looking like somewhere around where tech inspection normally is at this point, but I'm open to suggestions.
I planned to spectate anyway, so signing up for Cars and coffee was a no brainer.
Forgot to sign up for camping...
In reply to Tom Suddard :
Relatively close to some bathrooms would be cool but I realize that may not be very easy to do.
In reply to Lof8 - Andy :
If I put everybody far away from everything then it'll just be a better reason for pit bikes.
