How About Eating That Elephant 30 Minutes at a Time?

Overwhelmed by all those projects that you've been putting off? Can't get from one side of the garage to the other without knocking down a wall of parts? Forum user Ian F found a solution to conquer any large project that you might be facing: Set a timer for 30 minutes, and get to work—even if it's as small as opening a few boxes to see what's inside or as large as pushing a rolling chassis out of the garage.

Once that 30 minutes is up, stop. Repeat the process the next day, and then day after that.

The best part? This method can be applied to more than just project cars: Have an overflowing email inbox? Spend 30 minutes a day cleaning it out. Have an idea for the next great American novel? Spend 30 minutes a day writing it. (Okay, maybe that one is just for some of us.)

Rinse and repeat for 30 days, and you might be surprised at what you could accomplish in a month.

Thanks for using my before picture. I can assure you that my garage looks much better at the moment. No pics because I'm at the pool right now.

That's how I get my stuff done.  I have about 45 minutes to an hour between getting home from work and dinner. I do whatever can be done in that time, my oh so supportive wife even gives me a 5 minute warning before dinner.

I built the last motor for my Datsun 30 minutes at a time.

That's a BEFORE picture? It would make a pretty good AFTER picture for a lot of us. wink

I'm excited to have my project nearby(hopefully soon) so I can begin doing the 30minutes chomp. I've got the time in my schedule for 30 minutes per day, but currently it's the 3hr round trip to the storage unit that kills it.

This is the after picture.  I now have much more room to work on projects.

I decided to take Thursday through Tuesday to attempt a full cleaning and organizing of my garage after 7 years living here.

what I have learned about a bigger garage is that you can create an even bigger mess that overwhelms you to the point that you don't even attempt to clean up.

Well I burned my 6 days straight of cleaning and I'll have to go back to the 30min at a time approach.

You'll need to log in to post.
