Kia EV6 GT vs. Hyundai Ioniq 5 N: Did we forget about Kia?

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N has been getting a lot of love lately, especially after its stellar performance in the Tire Rack One Lap of America Presented by Grassroots Motorsports.

That’s not to say it’s not well-deserved, but you do remember that Kia also offers an electric car with the same underpinnings as the Ioniq 5, right–and not just the standard Ioniq 5, but the N model, too?

If you did, in fact, forget that the Kia EV6 GT is a thing, don’t worry, because we kind of forgot about it, too. (After all, when’s the last time you saw an advertisement for it?)

Both the Ioniq 5 N and EV6 GT are good for 601 horsepower and 545 lb.-ft. of torque, with the ability to temporary boost output to 641 horsepower and 568 lb.-ft. of torque.

Both cars offer all-wheel-drive, both have a curb weight of 4800 pounds, both can reach 60 mph from a standstill in less than 4 seconds and both have a maximum top speed of just over 160 mph.

So are the Kia and Hyundai virtually the same car?

Well, aside from the EV6 getting a slightly better estimated range of 231 miles and a lower starting price of $63,800 compared to the Ioniq 5 N’s 221 miles and $66,200 MRP, both cars are pretty much the same. Just look at how both cars compare in size:

All measurements are in inches unless otherwise noted

I mean, it makes sense since both cars essentially use the same chassis and powertrain, but we were kind of expecting there to be at least some major difference. (There may be more differences to find comparing feature lists, but let’s not get too lost in the weeds here.)

Okay. What, exactly, is the point I’m trying to make? If the EV6 GT is so mechanically similar to the Ioniq 5 N and offers similar performance, where’s the similar love for the Kia?

I know, the consumer always has a "better" idea, but I wish they, or someone, could shrink that package down to the size approaching a GTI/Golf R.

Supposedly VW is bringing out an electric GTI type of car...maybe that'll be my entry into the electric car market.

Other than my quibbling about size, Hyundai/Kia/Genesis are hitting a lot of targets in the performance market these days.  I hope it continues and gets noticed by the competition.

I took this photo in 2022: Multi-time SCCA national champ Chuck Sample ran this at a Daytona autocross.

I just saw one of these yesterday and thought "kinda cool looking - but too big."

I feel like I saw several EV6s when it first came out, but now I can't recall the last time I saw one.

And I don't think I've ever seen an EV6 GT, either.

This thread definitely did not make me look at prices and start getting bad ideas. I remember liking the EV6 when I drove one but I always forget they make them.

This is a good question, because the EV6 GT is also much better (IMHO) looking than the Ioniq 5 N.

Put that drivetrain in a Veloster chassis and take my money.
