Almost to the show!
Some of the biggest names in our scene are flocking to Indianapolis, Indiana, this week for the annual Performance Racing Industry Trade Show.
We’ll be there the whole week, December 8-10, so be sure to come by and say hello–just look for booth #3133 in the Yellow Hall. (Want to make an appointment? Just contact our Sales Director, Kevin Maffett.)
For anyone else that can’t make it in person this year, we’ll be dropping live updates from the trade show floor in this thread. Stay tuned for some of the latest and greatest widgets, and even a few wild builds.
Inb4 the internet/PRI gen pop starts hem-ing and haw-ing about how a set of RPF1s costs half of a challenge budget.

Your too late. I already had some people challenge that when I dropped it off yesterday.
In reply to nocones :
Needs a word bubble decal on with windshield banner that says "I won the Challenge so I get to wear fancy shoes now."
Or decals on the wheels to the tune of "Remove before F̶l̶i̶g̶h̶t̶ Budget Racing"

Is your build book there with you? Even if it's not there, explain to people that your budget is present for any competitor to review as well as protest.
Many people are just not open to the idea that it is possible. Doesn't matter how much data you give them, they will always cry foul.
We like LMP360 because it is awesome. It happens that it was also cheap.
If we focus on the awesome, more people will agree than if we focus on the cheap.

What an honor to have "the industry" inquire about your car and listen to your answers! Milk the experience for all its worth!

I've heard motorcycle riders have been doing this, I guess it was only a matter of time...it's not a bad idea and I would be open to trying it, but I think I'd just stick a $10 bluetooth earpiece into my helmet

But it's $50 cash to protest.

Hey I know that one: Meet the Bergsteiger, BimmerWorld's 1000-plus horsepower E36-chassis BMW M3 Pikes Peak racer
Richard Petty's grandson, Thad Moffitt, will compete in Trans Am's TA2 class starting in 2023.
Since the press release is pretty big, here are a few snippets:
It was announced today at the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show (PRI) that Thad Moffitt, grandson of racing legend Richard Petty, will compete full time in the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli’s TA2 class in 2023. Moffitt and Trans Am president John Clagett unveiled the No. 43 Safety-Kleen Chevrolet Camaro that Moffitt will pilot in his championship effort for TeamSLR. The Petty blue Chevy from constructor M1 Racecars will run out of TeamSLR’s headquarters in St. Augustine, Florida with support from Petty’s Garage in Randleman, North Carolina.
“I can’t wait to join the Trans Am Series in 2023,” said Moffitt. “The TA2 class is one of the most competitive places to race in all of motorsports, and it will be great to have a chance to race against the huge fields that include champions like Rafa Matos, Mike Skeen and Thomas Merrill. The series races at some of the most historic tracks in the country, with high-profile events like the Music City Grand Prix and Detroit Grand Prix; I am so grateful to have this opportunity.”
“I am so proud that Thad is going to be running in the Trans Am Series next year,” said Petty. “I think it is a wonderful opportunity for him to drive in such a competitive series and learn road racing. I love that we’re able to bring the No. 43 to Trans Am, and it will be so special to see a member of our family race that Petty blue Camaro. I am very appreciative to Safety-Kleen for helping make this possible through our continued partnership.”
Moffitt will make his Trans Am debut when the 2023 season kicks off at Sebring (Fla.) International Raceway on February 23-26. To prepare for that debut, Moffitt will participate in the pre-season test at Sebring Jan. 25-26 under the guidance of father-and-son duo Scott Lagasse and Scott Lagasse, Jr. The TeamSLR co-owners have combined to win more than 100 races and seven championships across a variety of series and styles of racecars, from paved ovals to road courses to dirt tracks.
We realized Nocones had never seen an LMP car in person, so we walked him over to the LINK booth to see one:

I can see the gears turning in his head in that second picture.

LMP car is amazing, but GT1 Firebird is where mind still stays on page three. The teaser is the finisher.

Yup, us, too.
Only got a chance to walk ~1/3 of the show today, but favorite car by far:
Thanks nocones for taking the time to chat and show off your racecar!

Liberty makes a great trans. We run them in our Bonneville stuff. The Blowfish is there in the PWR/C&R booth... it too has an airshifted Liberty in it.

That's not a car I was expecting to see.
They were pretty popular with the 4-cyl stock class on the circle tracks around here in the 80s and 90s. Most of them have long returned to dust. I wish I could find one that wasn't a complete junker.
In reply to Toyman! :
Oh yeah that's Brian Walsh of Racer Walsh. He's good people and very much into our scene.

I have a soft spot for Pinto race car stuff. My dad raced one in SCCA BS/GT3 back in the 70's and early 80's.

I was seeing them for closer to $300, but the price would have to come down to under $200 before I'd consider it. You can piece together a cheap pyrometer setup for $100, a nice tire gauge would be $30~$50, and the bluetooth logging feature is worth an easy $50.

Cool stuff from SKF: Hubs for C5 and C6 Corvettes that claim to solve their tendency to eat wheel bearings.
MiataHubs.com is here too; we might need to upgrade our LFX car to these soon. ABS tone rings are an option and we'll be adding it to the car over the winter.
That's a wrap, everybody! Thanks to everybody we saw over the past few days. Time to head home to sunny Florida.

Ooh.
Now I want to know what other applications there are. Personal agenda wants them for P2 Volvos, but those are a dwindling market.
If they make one for the rear of Subarus, though, they will sell many thousands.

I miss PRI, might need to come up with an excuse to go back.
Kind of surprised to not see the BluePrint Racing Engines new 3.6L 4 cylinder with an LS head. I can think of a TON of stuff I'd love to stuff one in... and then boost it.
I grabbed screen shots from their coverage on Instagram. Looks pretty bitchin.

That is definitely supposed to run canted over to the left! What racing class would run it? I thought Midgets were limited to 180-ish CI.
Not a fan of the bottom end (2 bolt mains and pan rail inline with the crank, in 2022?) but the more I look at it, the more I realize those are Iron Duke bones.
A 220ci Iron Duke that can breathe???
I, for one, cannot wait until the price of used TA1 and TA2 cars on racingjunk crosses over with the amount of disposable cash I have on hand. I think in 10-15 years these are going to be an even better option than used stock cars for building a track toy out of.

Ok I NEED this.....I have a billet 4 valve head I made for the LS sitting on my garage shelf...never got the chance to make a second prototype so a 4 cyl build would be perfect....
In reply to nocones :
The thing has been collecting dust for 6 years...and I actually only recovered it 3 or 4 years ago as things were being sold off from the company I used to work for and I asked about it. They just gave it to me.
I've been waiting for a free blown up aluminum LS to start with but a purpose made 4 cyl block is so much better to start a build with.
