The SCCA announced that Lee Grimes, the former Automotive Product Manager for Koni North America, has been hired as a Partner Relationship Manager.
"We are thrilled to welcome Lee Grimes to the SCCA family,” said Kristen Poole, Director of Marketing & Communications. “His passion for motorsports, dedication to the SCCA community, decades of industry experience, and drive for service excellence make him an invaluable addition to our team in this role.”
Grimes has been an active SCCA member for 40 years, and has also contributed to Grassroots Motorsports since the 1990s.
Growing up in a family active in the SCCA, Grimes started autocrossing at the age of 18. Not long after, at 24, he attended his first Road Racing Driver’s School–and hasn’t looked back since, serving on various regional boards and spending plenty of time behind the wheel, too.
“Every job that I’ve held since college has been SCCA-adjacent–from mounting SCCA members’ racing tires while working at a tire store right out of school, to working in the video production industry, and then working with KONI with a strong SCCA member market and focus,” said Grimes. “Joining the SCCA staff feels like I’ve come full circle. Motorsports and the SCCA are my passion.”

He's a good guy. I've been harassing him (good naturedly) for years about putting those first gen CRX shocks back into production. Koni has changed their internals in such a way that it would require reengineering them, so it'll never happen. But it was fun to poke him about it. Too bad those days are over.
Congrats to Lee and SCCA for nabbing him.
Crap.
Awesome for Mr. Grimes, but, now who am I going to ask about whether NC Miata Koni Race units will do what I want at the back of my E21. If I can get them, Goodwin Racing seems to have exclusive, and they won't give up a pair for me....
Good grab for SCCA.
Congratulations Lee! I've had the pleasure of speaking with him once or twice. He's a really personable guy. Relationship manager sounds like the perfect role for him.
Lee has always been like family. He’s written for us going back decades, while we obviously worked with him a lot at Koni. Very happy to hear the news and looking forward to more projects together.
I've dealt with Lee before I joined GRM. He's always been a consummate professional and someone truly concerned with those who he works with. Besides, I really dig the MazdaSpeed3 he brought to the SCCA Time Trials Nationals this past fall. I miss my Mazda3.
