my current status: deciding which tires to put it in the trailer on. I feel like if I load it up on the treaded rubber it will keep the rain away better.

I'll be camping at the track all weekend, which means I'm starting my trip with some minor RV maintenance. Hooray....
johndej said:Tut tut, looks like rain...
It does indeed. My tire choices are Goodyear RS-R DOT slicks, or Yok A052 "rain" tires. The Yoks are certainly better in the rain tan slicks, but they're not a true rain tire by any stretch. Generally I'm fairly comfortable driving in the rain—racing in Florida all my life has its benefits—but VIR is a pretty technical and FAST circuit, and things can go screwy even in perfect conditions. So I'm definitely going to be sneaking up on the edge more than attacking if rain is the call.

Nice! Going with my extreme contact sport for HPDE, should be good for both wet or dry.
Please take and post so many pictures. Particularly take interesting ones of the LMP3 car and other Protoypes, but pictures from the whole Hyperfest event would be appreciated. I went and managed to get Covid and my Isolation period does not allow for attendance. I'm recovering so there will always be next year but I want pictures!!

Thanks for doing the responsible thing. i think there'll be at least 4 of us posting from the event, so you'll have plenty to read in your seclusion.

Yes this please! There are so many interesting cars in attendance this year please please please cover the hell out of the them!
J.G. just sent this from the road. Unfortunately, we can't confirm if it's also heading to the UTCC.
True story: Oscar Meyer came to our school to recruit Wienermobile crews and, yes, I did go to their talk.
In reply to Tom Suddard :
We need a Cribs style video of the camper. It solves the maintenance issues that a little used vehicle has.
Cars are headed out in two minutes for their first timed session:
Track conditions are changing; rain just stopped and a dry line is out there, but it will be challenging if the rain continues as forecast.
So far I'm 0-for-2 on tire guesses. Went out in the first session on Goodyear RS-Rs only to have it mist up which ended with me in the grass. Put the A052s on for the second session only to watch it dry rapidly as a breeze picked up. I think the stickies are going back on for session 3. Sooner or later we'll guess right.

Yeah the stock C5 Z wheels are classics.
Also, baby gooses
The second timed Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge session just went out on track, so we'll see if anybody is fast enough to beat Brian Faessler.
One promising entry has yet to make a single lap: Mark Johnson has been working on his Civic all morning in an attempt to finish it for the UTCC.
And I hear a rumor that a certain magazine is nosing around for a story on that EG. It looks cool, and hopefully it's soon on track.
Hello, ladies
Had some bad luck with traffic, but snuck into the top 10. Probably another couple seconds out there if it stays dry.
I see the prototype went off in practice and is absent from any time sheets so far hopefully nothing serious.
Rooting for the EG to get on track!
In reply to Byrneon27 :
You know, I looked at buying an EG new in 1992. It's been cool watching them evolve and develop over the years. I did eventually get one, and I do miss it.
David S. Wallens said:Also, a better shot of the E30 in the background.
Also, look for something on that E30 in the magazine soon. I have the owner on the other line. :)
Brian Faessler is still going strong in first place after the third timed session, with a fast lap of 1:49.057.
The UTCC field just went out for its final timed session of the day! Roughly half of the competitors are on track (JG included). The rest are staying in the paddock because they're content with earlier times, they've broken something, or both.
That last session was suboptimal. Track is just getting too hot and releasing moisture from the earlier rains. I had about half a lap within a couple tenths of my best, but threw it away chasing them. So not much to be gained except a nice afternoon drive.
Results from Friday's final timed session (please note, this is not indicative of the overall winner):

Forget a project car, I'm going to save up my money for a project bus.

Rubbin' (with the ground) is racing, right?
I wish I could tell you it happened doing something super cool, but I snagged it while driving it up to our booth in the pavilion. Virginia has more hills than Florida, apparently.
In reply to JG Pasterjak :
You know, you could have said it happened at a buck-85 and no one would be the wiser.
David S. Wallens said:I just saw a quick video of the interior of the BimmerWorld bus. Wow. It's very, very nice.
link sir?

If Wally ever enters, it needs to be in this. Oscar-Mayer marketing team, you're missing a great opportunity for an excellent YouTube series of setting laptimes at famous tracks around North America in the Weinermobile, I suspect Road America wouldn't allow you to run there, due to Johnsonville, but everywhere else should be a go. Also remember in turn 17 at Sebring, if you bounce it more than 3 times, that you're playing with it.
Knockout was fun. Very much a game of heat management after it suddenly turned dry. Still did alright, even though I cooked the starter.
