Already a capable hot hatch out of the box, this 2017 Honda Civic Type R has been turned into an all-out track machine. It regularly competes in Global Time Attack thanks to a fully built K20 powerplant good for 500 horsepower and 450 lb.-ft. of torque.

Will this hopped-up Type R be the next winner of the 2021 Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge?

What is the Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge? It’s our annual no-holds-barred track competition. The rules are simple: Car and driver must pass a NASA safety inspection. Period.

Here’s a closer look at this week’s selection:

The work done on the Type R doesn’t stop at just the engine. The car features Motion Control suspension, AP Racing brakes and aerodynamic modifications that include a front splitter, rear diffuser and Nine Lives Racing Wang kit. Will all those mods be enough to pull ahead of the competition?

Nicholas Gardner is his bringing 2020 Shelby GT500 Mustang. Even though the modifications are light, the car is still good for over 700 horsepower and 600 lb.-ft. of torque. As Nicholas explains, “She's fat but nimble. She can stretch her legs on the straights but come to a halt instantly for the corner.” Can this point-and-shoot track car blast past the rest of the field?

View these cars, along with the rest of the field, on the UTCC website. If you think you have what it takes to win, enter your car here.

The Tire Rack Ultimate Track Car Challenge is presented by Tire Rack in association with Wilwood EngineeringHP TunersSPA TechniqueXClutch and KW Suspensions, with trophies from BimmerWorldFalken TireHoosier Tire, and Mach V Motorsports.
