Honda continues to lure us closer and closer to the unveiling of the next-generation Civic Type R, this time with the chance to see the prototype–fresh from testing at Suzuka Circuit–in person at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon, January 14-16, 2022.

Honda does note, however, that the prototype will still be wearing its signature camaflauge.

Wearing a special camouflage designed exclusively for Type R, the prototype will also be featured in a new action-packed test-driving video, so TAS visitors can go behind the scenes with Honda engineers and experience the development of Type R.

At any rate, the display of the prototype should give the world more views and angles of the next-gen Type R that don’t directly come from Honda.

I starting to worry.  The more hype there is, the less interesting the product is.  Like maybe the new car is the old one with a different infotainment system.

My only worry is that Honda says, haha North America, you're not getting it again, but we'll have the drivetrain in the Integra within the next 3 years instead.

I hope that the new one offers a few things:

1. make enough of them that they don't sell for sticker+

2. make the "touring" edition that doesn't look like the car 17 year old me wanted.  The trunk is large enough to carry a set of track wheels and jack to the track making for a fun dual use vehicle

3. warranty for track usage similar to what Chevrolet (some models) and Mazda does (Miata).

I hope the performance is better than the obviously disappointing styling. No wonder they slapped that stupid wrap on it.

1. Even if they do, dealers will still ask for a markup in this inflated economy. I recently went and looked at a few TLX Type-Ss. There were about 10 readily available in a 30 min radius of where I was at. Each dealer want a minimum of a $7500 "market adjustment."

2. This new one looks largely subdued compared to the outgoing 10th Gen. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it'll have less features that the 10th Gen all around so that they can add them to the Integra Type-S/R as the more up-market version. Just look at the 11th Gen Si compared to the 10th Gen Si. Less features/more money and an Integra brother on the way. -- From the 10th to 11th Gen Si it lost heated seats, fog lights, fully digital dash (it shares the poverty spec Civic instrument cluster whereas the Canadian Si gets the full digital dash) and a few other features, plus it costs about $3k more in MSRP than the 10th Gen.

Also this new one is a liftback more than a hatchback so I'm guessing storage space will be down too.

3. Honda? Track Warranty? You have a better chance of Santa Claus delivering your kids a unicorn.
