Reader’s Ride of the Week: Autocross Abomination

We’re all for the Frankenstein approach to car building. After all, we recently installed a turbocharged rotary drivetrain in a first-generation Miata. That swap would not have been possible without the help of forum member Toyman01, whose own rotary-powered project is equally magnificent. It’s a 1980 Triumph Spitfire with a rotary engine under the hood. He calls it “The Abomination” and regularly stretches its legs at autocrosses and hill climbs.

In reply to Ed Higginbotham:

No offense, but I think that story is missing an awful lot. There is a LOT more to it that is of interest to GRM readers (especially considering your rotary Miata, and the Challenge)

^^ He's right you know.

The Abomination was originally built for the 2006 Challenge, buy same dude that envisioned the Rotary Miata. Curmudgeon had a hand in both of them.

I'm just the guy that's trying to take the Abomination to the next level.
