Ride Along in Our Project Z06 at Daytona

Project Corvette Z06 hit the high banks of Daytona this weekend for a track event and another round of the Southeast Division SCCA Time Trial series. While more than a few of our laps during Friday’s practice sessions were in a heaping helping of Florida liquid sunshine, our competition sessions on Saturday were delightfully dry, and it was a joy to push the car at our historic local track.

Despite the high speeds and immense loads on the banking at Daytona, we still have nothing but praise for many of the systems we’ve put in place to help the car excel on track. The Wilwood Brakes have stood up to more than half a dozen track events at this point, and more than double the amount of autocross events, and have barely shown any measurable pad wear. This was probably the last event for our BFGoodrich GForce R1S tires, but they, too, have over half a dozen track events worth of producing competitive lap times. They were just as fast out of the box as they were nearly showing cord, which is impressive for any tire, and reassuring to know that you’re getting every bit of value out of an expensive purchase. The AMT Motorsports spherical suspension bearing package has put up with hundreds of miles of track abuse but still feels as smooth and tight as the day we installed them. And the AJ Hartman aero bits produce tremendous performance and a reassuring performance envelope that makes pushing the car hard very confidence-inspiring.

Look for a turn by turn analysis of some aero vs no aero testing we did at Daytona coming soon.

In the meantime, ride along for two of our fastest laps at Daytona International Speedway from this past weekend.
