For the second year, the SCCA Foundation has ensured SCCA regions are supplied with loaner helmets through its Loaner Helmet grant. In total, 185 RaceQuip OP2020 helmets were received by 20 regions this year.

The initiative helps regions encourage people not familiar with the SCCA or its activities a chance to participate, as Arnie Coleman, Executive Director of the SCCA Foundation, explains:

We realized Snell 2005 loaner helmets utilized by many Regions were nearing their expiration date for SCCA events. Purchasing new helmets at retail prices can cause Regions some heartache. So, SCCA Foundation stepped in and helped since one of our goals is to enrich lives through participation in motorsports activities for the benefit of SCCA members, their communities, and the general public.”

Normally more than $200 per helmet (before shipping), the Loaner Helmet grant allowed SCCA regions to purchase the helmets at only $100 each–shipping included.

That's good news and always refreshing to see a barrier to entry removed.

And I can't remember if our region had loaner helmets when I first ran, but I did borrow a helmet from a co-worker.

That little token helped get me involved.
