The Mazda MX-5 RFs Are Coming!

Mazda Motor Corporation started production of the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF retractable hardtop (known as Roadster RF in Japan) recently at the Ujina Plant No.1 near its global headquarters in Hiroshima. Production began with models bound for North American and European markets, where sales launches begin from early 2017. In Japan, the MX-5 RF will go on sale later this year.

Is it too early to go stand in line at our local Mazda dealership?

I got a card from Them last week, "do you want To be the first to own the new MX5 RF?" Or something like that, "no, not really!" said I.

I got asked at the end of the autocross season, if I was going to sell my C/SP Miata to go put a down payment on a Miata RF. Not an awful idea, but I'm averse to new car payments and OBDII

$33-$35k miata doesn't really sell to me lol, but I guess i'm not the target audience. I would for sure take a rag top miata for $10k less but that wouldn't even be a club so no limited slip when a base FRS has everything. I think these cars are overall overpriced.

They're as cheap as they've ever been. How long does it take to put the top down and back up on the FRS? Actually, the non-Club cars have better suspension than the Clubs.

The RF starts at $31,555 by the way. That hasn't been released to the media yet, but Mazda announced it last week at the MRLS event. R&T was there, so they've carried the story already. I'm seriously considering an RF.

That's the Club model. $31,555. There's no Sport version of the RF, you basically get to choose between Club and GT. The Launch Edition is a GT with a unique color combo.

I love the design, but not worth the surcharge. I found a nice CPO 16 Club.

Keith you are the expert and like the fourth person I have heard say that the base is better then the club. What is up with that, to stiff to transition?

Bad valving choice on the Bilsteins, IMO. They've always got that tendency to fidget, but it's just too much damping on the Club. The car is harsh and never settles down. It probably feels sporty as hell on a test drive but it doesn't have the composure needed to really flow over a back road. I suspect if you tied Dave Coleman up and tortured him for a few days he might admit the same. If you throw a set of our springs on it, they come into their own because now they have enough spring to work the valving.

He has said (without torture) that the RF handles better than the convertibles - at least for now. Having another year to fine-tune the suspension has paid off. The convertibles will get some of the same tweaks, but not immediately.
