Been in the gate line for 30 minutes... this is going to be a big year!!
HyperFest–the automotive amusement park that’s equal parts motorsports celebration and music festival–heads to Virginia International Raceway this weekend, May 19-21.
You know who else is heading to VIR this weekend? That’s right, your friends from GRM. Just look for our Mk7 GTI project car. If you spot us, be sure to say hello.

I've found my new dream car. 22hp v-twin mated to the input shaft of an S10 transmission with a custom frame holding it all together. "It'll easily hit 40 mph but we haven't tried to go faster yet."
Tech inspection is complete! I even found some room in the paddock thanks to Chris Drum, of UTCC fame. It's almost time to see how well the GTI does at VIR.
On grid! I'm registered for a catchall "open practice" so I gridded the GTI way at the back. I've never been here before, and this car will be way slower than all of the purpose-built race cars in this group.
Damn, going to miss it this year with twins incoming but will follow along here and can't wait to get back down there!
And the GTI is now a VIR veteran! I managed a 2:20 with heavy traffic for most of the session--not bad for a street car on real street tires.
And here's today's livestream: http://tiny.cc/HyperFestTV
Car show is setting up; these builds aren't my thing but I also have to admit they're impressive. This car probably has just as many hours poured into it as my TT car.

Coming off a week of OneLap VIR was likely just another day in the life. Have you really turned off OneLap?
Drive 600 road miles, put on a few high speed passes on track. Are you still in "the transit mode" of trying to maximize your down time for fuel/food stops?
In reply to John Welsh :
Oh yeah, still very much in OLOA mode. I texted Andy when I hit the road at 3pm Thursday "only 600 mile transit tonight, this is easy!"
