If we're going to dream (and that's probably all it is) I vote for an updated RX-8 with the 2.5 Turbo. As much as I like Mazda's car-based SUVs, I think that three is enough.

I'll be disappointed if I don't get a Duran Duran show this time, or at least Flock of Seagulls

If it is just a removable hardtop for the Miata, I will be disappointed. Even a retractable hardtop is going to get a big "Meh" after all the hoopla. But I bet that is what it is.

If it's Flock of Seagulls, I'll be able to confidently say that I just ran...I ran so far away.

As I said in the other thread, I'm hoping against hope that it'll be a Mazdaspeed6 wagon.

If it's just the PRHT, I'm going to be very grumpy. If you want people to be excited in the future, don't get them excited and then show them something they're expecting.

We'll probably have to wait to find out what it weighs first. The NC was about 80 lbs for the PRHT, and some of that was in the structure of the car - beefed up rear quarter panels, for example. Pretty impressive when you figure the fiberglass NA/NB hardtops were about 40 lbs.

For some of us, it's pretty meaningless.

I'm totally ok if it's 80lb. I've personally lost 50 lb since I got my '99 Miata. That, and the use I plan for the car- 80lb is pretty meaningless.

So it's sort of the coupe shape in a PRHT. I like the way it looks. You still don't get as much cargo volume as a pure hatchback coupe, but it's pretty nice to look at. That car is definitely on my list when the MSM gets put out to pasture. Thank you Mazda for making something different.

I hope not - they seem to have a similar wind breaker in them as the convertibles, so hopefully the window will go down.

I'd prefer a coupe or hatchback, but I'm pretty impressed with this. I've gotten convertibles out of my system and didn't have much interest in an ND Miata, but I will certainly go take a look at one of these. I could see myself owning one.

I would have liked to see a true hatchback, but next year when I'm buying a new car I will definitely go to check this out (which I would not have done for a regular miata). A true hatchback I'd have money in hand. This one, will have to see how it looks in person and once someone puts some decent wheels, tires, and a mild drop on it.

On pricing, here is a 2008 options list for NCs.

http://www.mazdausa.com/MusaWeb/pdf/pricing_update/MX5-2008-pricing.pdf

This indicates almost a $2k premium on the GT, a $4k premium on the Sport. This difference is in base options on the PRHT package. I would imagine that Mazda is shooting for a similar price difference. So the guesses of $30k are likely right on with the base price where it is at.
