Georgia Tech has a history of bringing homebrewed, forced-induction setups to our $2000 Challenge. For our 2011 gathering, the team entered a Miata powered by a forced-fed Lexus V8, a setup good enough for a fifth-place finish.

The team had bounced back from adversity to make the big show. When running the Miata earlier that year at our Ultimate Track Car Challenge, the Lexus engine lost its oil on the warmup lap.

Make your own low-buck memories at the Grassroots Motorsports $2000 Challenge Presented by Tire Rack, which returns April 6-7, 2024. Watch 2000challenge.com for details.

Ah yes, the first racecar I ever worked on. Don't forget to mention it won the Challenge the year before in 2010. We pretty much ruined a winning recipe by adding the supercharger and swapping the trans for a manual.

That wing was an aerospace student's senior design project, if I recall correctly, and was rumored to support the weight of 4 freshmen.
