Your Projects: A Porsche 906 a decade in the making

What’s the longest you’ve been gathering parts for your project? A few months? A year or two? How about a decade–and counting?

In 2014 I bought an original body from two different cars and the rear of a 910,” explains Apis Mellifera, “I planned to build a chassis using factory blueprints.”

Like so many projects, though, other priorities–and other projects cars–came into the picture, meaning the 906 body was placed up on a shelf.

In the years since, Apis Mellifera has accumulated multiple air-cooled 911 engines, shocks from a 917, gear sets from a 908, “one terrible 914 gearbox” and, most recently, a 906 chassis from someone who was having their 906 restored.

The list of remaining parts needed is pretty short, too: “I still need doors, which I will probably end up making, suspension and, and ambition. I really need a good 914 gearbox if anyone has one.”

Apis Mellifera plans for more updates soon, so check out the build thread here so you don’t miss out.

I can't wait to see how this project turns out in the end. I know it's going to be way cool.
