Your Projects: Meet The Bean, a Ford 302-Powered Pinto

The Ford Pinto may have an unfortunate legacy, but that doesn't mean it can’t be spiced up with the help of a V8.

Specifically, forum user Shavarsh has removed the stock engine from a blue Pinto—lovingly called “The Bean”—and dropped in a built Ford 302 V8 in its place. It's backed by a Tremec T5 transmission.

The end goal? Shavarsh hasn’t explicitly stated one, but does a V8-powered Pinto really need an end goal?

At any rate, Shavarsh has also done work to make sure it’s at least somewhat safe to drive thanks to an upgraded rear end from a late model Ford Explorer and brake components from a Mustang II.

What’s next for the Bean? You’ll have to check out the build thread over on the Builds and Project Cars Forum to find out for yourself.

We built one of these back in college from nothing but junkyard parts. The weirdest thing was the exhaust. Swapping them side to side so the exhaust went forward then did a 180 on their way to the back. Lots of cutting and welding to get them to fit.

As a recovering Pintoholic, I LOVE this.

The only question is, drag race?

Or road race?
