We love the AE86-chassis Toyota Corolla just as much as the next person, but the infamous "drift tax" has made finding decent examples very costly. The next best thing? How about an AW11-chassis Toyota MR2 like the one forum user Vracer111 just recently picked up?
Just like the AE86, power comes from the iconic 4A-GE engine that really comes alive when attached to a set of individual throttle bodies—which is something that Vracer111 plans on adding to this MR2.
This AW11 is in good shape, but needs a handful of repairs and improvements including "de-rusting" the trunk and frunk, fixing a few faulty electric switches, and removing the non-functioning air conditioning system.
That doesn't mean that this will be a purist restoration, evident from the custom-fab, center-exit exhaust (and, of course, the individual throttle bodies Vracer111 will add later down the line).

Just to be clear, that Burns Stainless exhaust shown is one that was on my FR-S: the exhaust on the MR2 is currently still some muffler shop put together thingy... still functional but kind of rusty and not pretty to look at. I definitely plan on doing a Burns Stainless exhaust for the MR2 though... love how the 2-stage quiet muffler sounds, should work well with the 4AGE.
Hmmm that's interesting. I never knew I bought a car that was already in "your projects." I was out in the garage tonight working on the power to manual windows conversion and installation of the T3 door panels. The car is going a slightly different direction now, but will still follow VRacer111s lead. I will be honest, I think it's going to be way more fun to drive than I ever imagined.
