Project BMW 318is: Our Project is Done

Update by Tim Suddard to the BMW 318is project car
Aug 8, 2019

At this point, our 1991 BMW 318is project is about done. Sure, we ended up with a bit over $20,000 in a project that is only worth about three-quarters of that figure, but we also ended up with what is essentially a brand new 318is for what they cost when new. So, we are going to call this a good deal.

As a plus, we also included some carefully chosen modifications that include the 2.0-liter engine and the corresponding power numbers that this car should have been built with when new. Another plus goes to the much nicer tire and wheel package, quicker steering and a suspension setup that makes the handling on this car pretty much other-worldly.

So, if we seem happy with the way this one turned out, then you are reading us correctly. And please do not ask if we plan on selling this car, as the answer is an emphatic NO!

We need to thank all of our partners again and remind our readers that our face-off with an M3 is the cover story in our August 2019 issue of Grassroots Motorsports. Pick it up at newsstands or subscribe today on our website.

No...  That is not how GRM set this car up.  Boost would ruin the Resto Euro vibe.

That insulation on the underside of the hood should be taken care of.  smiley  Otherwise it's a sweet looking car.

Too late, whoops!

This was a great build and should be easy to enjoy for years to come.

I just surprised that you did not put a Chevy LT engine in it.

Pretty much every project car in you great mag has one in it.

Weather or not it need one.

Well done project, I really enjoyed the process.
