Update by David S. Wallens to the Mazda Miata - Sunburst Yellow project car
Dec 13, 2012

We came so close to bringing our Sunburst Yellow 1992 Miata back to life last night. We installed a new fuel pump, and it is sending gas to the engine compartment.

We’re not getting an injector pulse, though, despite a known good ECU. This poor car spent about 6 years sitting outside, and there’s plenty of evidence that the local rodent population had moved in. We have a bad feeling that someone snacked on an important wire—at least, that’s the way the evidence is pointing.

The fix? We could test every wire under the hood, but the harness is fairly gross. We have a good, used engine harness on the way. Hopefully that will bring the car back to life. The saddest thing is that the Miata probably won’t make this weekend’s $2012 Challenge.
