Big Wheels, Big Brakes

Update by Per Schroeder to the Dodge SRT-4 project car
Jan 5, 2005

We’ve just received some new wheels for our SRT-4. The big brake kit that we’re installing requires a wheel with a fair amount of caliper clearance. We got Konig’s new Hurry wheel in both black and silver. The black set will be our street wheels, while the silver will be perfect for our race-only Hoosiers. We’ve got Hankook K104 tires on the way for street use.

Now we can install those TCE big brakes!

We also did some baseline brake testing. On stock pads, the car stops from 60-0 in 130 feet. With Hawk HPS pads, the distance dropped to 121 feet. There was noticeably more brake torque with the new pads, as you had to threshold brake from 60, instead of around 45 mph.

We’ve also got a blow off valve and an adjustable wastegate actuator from Forge Motorsport that we’ll be installing while the folks from Sports Car Revolution film us.

The Hurry weighs in at 18 pounds in a 17x7 size. They’ve got quite a bit of caliper clearance for big brake kits and they’re inexpensive.
