MINI Club Racer Shakedown

Update by Per Schroeder to the Mini Cooper S Club Racer project car
May 28, 2008

K&W coilovers, big brakes and good ducting aren't bad starting points.
The rear suspension is also well equipped with a larger rear bar and more K&W pieces.
We added some Konig Daylight wheels, as well as some fresh BFGoodrich g-Force R1 tires.
On track, the car handled quite well, with just a hint of understeer coming out of corners.
We found one weak link after about 30 laps: We folded up one of the rear control arms. Thankfully, new aftermarket pieces are a quick and easy phone call away.

We took our 2005 MINI Cooper S to the track yesterday to start its shakedown process. The car was originally built for the MINI Challenge, but that series never really got off the ground. Instead of letting the car rot away, we begged MINI for the chance to campaign at NASA, SCCA and BMW CCA events.

The car has a full complement of safety gear and suspension work, but it has never really been raced. Our job will be to make sure that it’s well sorted and that everything is up to snuff.
