Update by Per Schroeder to the Mini Cooper S project car
Jun 4, 2007

Kim and Per brought the 2007 MINI Cooper S up to Huntsville, Alabama for the Solo National Tour. We wound up getting there too late for the practice course and had to go into Saturday morning with fresh “sticker” tires—the 225/40R17 Hoosiers that we have mounted on the Enkeis. The first few runs on Saturday were a little slow, but by the end, Per was .7 behind the leader, GH Sharp. Sunday was quite a bit better, with the margin being cut to just over .3 as we discovered that the large course design was actually very, very technical, requiring that the “line” be held to within inches or you were penalized harshly by not flowing smoothly to the next feature. Our ‘team’ wound up finishing 4th and 5th in this very competitive class, although we wound up actually doing very well on index at this National level event. Kim was 69th on index, the second fastest female (although Kim runs open) and Per was 30th out of 188, which isn’t too bad considering the hole we dug ourselves on the first day. We were 24th and 65th just on Sunday-only results.

The Hoosiers seem to like 43psi in the front and we were running the rears closer to 50 psi. Next up, we’ll be investigating shock absorber options for the new car.
