what system did you use for the flappy paddles?

I'm guessing that is the stock Laycock electrically activated overdrive unit? I had a 1966 TR4A (also with IRS) with that unit. You could switch it on in any gear - that would give you 8 gears . . . maybe it didn't work in first . . . I don't remember. The activation "paddle" was really a toggle switch with a long handle - similar to a turn signal lever.
