1979 BMW 320/6 Gray Market

Our little toy is originally a gray market 1979 BMW E21 “320/6” - which means it came with a small 2.0 Lt. in-line six and 4 barrel carb on it from the factory. Car was converted to a track only car by one of the PO’s years ago. The car still has the original 2.0 Lt block and head in it currently - while I do not know anything about the internal parts in this motor. I do know that the tranny has been converted to a 5 speed which I believe is out of an E30 along with an E30 oil cooler put on it. I have done a few bolt-on mods to the motor which include 390cfm HP Holley, full porting and reworking of intake to mount the holley, modified euro shorty headers with parts from Cone Engineering, MSD 6AL. My son and I have also done a full roll cage change that is turning into a want-a-be tube chassis thing - that is currently a 12 point cage and we have not yet gone forward of the firewall. We had also previously up graded the suspension to adjustable coil overs all around along with adjustable Ground Control chamber/caster plates on the front end. We also just finished a Volvo Big brake conversion on the front end. For those unfamiliar with this upgrade – it uses 77-79 E21 vented rotors with Volvo 4 piston calipers and some brake line changes. We are currently working on a rear suspension mod to raise the suspension mounting points up into the car so we can lower the ride height and keep the suspension geometry in tack. We mostly run BMWCCA Auto-X with the car – we started all the cage work as we are looking forward to getting in some track days this year and next. More up dates to come….
