The protege is now up on stands in the garage while the BMW is away getting a once-over from the mechanic. The angry hampster wants to hit the track!

After killing my 205/50 15 Kumho Ecsta XS tires during our season last year, I decided to upgrade to some thick and sticky rubber this year: 225/45 15 Nitto NT01s. I'm currently running a 7" rim with approx. +45 offset. ...

Track Days

This decal from www.madcowsdesign.com seemed more than fitting for the front of the protege. It's applied just below the scrape mark left behind by the guard rail after turn 1 at Calabogie Motorsports Park

Debugging Old Control Arms

After replacing my control arms, I was curious to figure out just what exactly had gone wrong with my old ones. It turns out that the passenger side balljoint was finished and so was the rear bushing. The rear bushing ...

Control arm - losing control

Apparently my new nickname is "Last-second-Jeffy". The reason? 5 days before a double header auto-x event I decided to swap my control arms. After 6 hours the old ones were off. It took another 10 hour work day, a flatbed ...

Corksport Order

It's no secret that proteges aren't a very common sight on tracks and auto-x courses. They are GROSSLY overshadowed by the uber-popular mx-5 and occasionally the rx-7. As a result, there isn't really an abundance of after market support. Thankfully, ...

Parts and STICKERS!

Well Mazdaspeed Motorsports has come through again. I realized that if I'm replacing the control arms, I may as well replace the 12 y/o factory tie rod ends. Maybe now my alignment guy will stop swearing at me in arabic! ...

Thanks to Mazdaspeed Motorsports I'll be picking up some replacement lower control arms for my ride. I blew the balljoint on the passenger side when I "grazed" the guardrail coming out of turn 1 at calabogie

I just bought a house and started cleaning out the garage on the weekend. If all goes well, the protege will come out of storage this weekend and the work can begin! To-Do List - Gut interior - Install Rollbar - Check fluids - Replace control arms (12 years worth of rust!)
