1997 Dodge Neon ACR

Last May (2010) I was in the market for a race car as I learned that building your own is not the most economical way for a twenty three year old to spend his money. I ran across this Neon ACR on my daily “SCCA” search on Craigslist and found not only was it right down the road from me (Road Atlanta) but also very affordable. Despite the lack of respect Neons get on the street I’ve always been a fan of the ACRs and grew up seeing them dominate in the Showroom Stock classes. A few days after finding the ad, I sold my MR2 street car and went to pick it up. It was previously a SSC car in the 90s and also ran in the old Neon Challenge Series which I thought was pretty cool, it has quite a bit of cool historic bits here and there. I was completely sold. Since my purchase I have started the path to get it back on track in wheel to wheel racing. I’ve added new belts, fire extinguisher, extra door bars, MOMO steering wheel and quick release, etc. Plans are to race it in ITA in both sprint and endurance races and progressively make the car faster for the class. It’s currently practically a stock ACR with the required race items added. Anyway, it’s a fun car and has only gotten better with little changes here and there at track days I’ve done.
