1961 MG A

I recently completed a frame off restoration of my 1961 MGA 1600 that was initiated over 4 years ago. I have owned the MGA since 1972 – having purchased it as a senior in High School. I am the second owner. The car was sold new in Portland, Oregon. The car is briefly shown in opening scenes of the movie “Animal House” parked outside of the Library at the University of Oregon. The “A” served as my primary transportation in college and graduate school. After 1978 it became more of a weekend and pleasure vehicle – and has faithfully transported family members, friends and I throughout the course of my career in Newport Beach, Seattle, Atlanta, and Salem, Oregon. I currently live in Abu Dhabi and enjoy driving the “A” when home on holiday. All body panels are original as the car has always been garage kept. Body, paint, and mechanicals have all been restored by top local professionals. My contributions have included disassembly, cleaning, cataloguing, chasing parts and reassembly. I received a great deal of assistance from my good friend Brad Victor who has restored a number of Triumphs and the dedicated professionals at British Auto Works (Bill and Stan) in North Plains, Oregon. All is stock except for the early MGB high compression engine and 3.9 MGB rear end. Having owned the MGA for nearly 40 years I sometimes say that it is the most enduring (longest lasting) relationship that I have had! My lovely wife Mojgan seems to understand my passion for automobiles – but she occasionally kids me for owning 3 red convertibles!
