1991 Mazda MX5

1991 Malibu Gold MX5 NA6. These were the rarest of the various limited editions,as only 55 were exported to Australia and due to damage in transit, several were written off .About 47 to 50 were sold. They were unpopular, as yellow was an unpopular colour in Oz in those days. Unlike the sunburst yellow sold elsewhere, the Malibus were marketed as a special limited edition with matching hard top, rear window demister, leather seats with speakers, CD player, special Malibu body graphics and probably a couple of other things I cant remember. This one also had the viscous lsd as delivered. I bought mine about 5 years ago after it had been hail damaged. It had been fitted with a racing beat type 1front bar, and a locally produced rear spoiler. Luckily all the hail dents came out, but the body still does have a couple of small dings that really need tidying up. It is not a concourse car, and I drive it all the time. Presently has 244,000 kilometers on the clock.Second engine, I believe. I have added a full CAMS approved roll bar, NA8 brakes, adjustable konis and lowered springs; adjustable heavy duty sway bars, torsen 4.1 diff conversion (after the 1.6 viscous lsd shat itself on the day I purchased the car); MX5 Mania cold air intake, 2.25inch cat back exhaust, several sets of 15 inch wheels with a range of tyres from Re002s to Falken Rt615 semis so I have the right tyre for the occasion. It is presently booked in for Mania to fit a low milege 1999-2000 1800 cc engine with the BT4W head and a set of extractors which should increase the torque a bit over the stock 1600 donk. I have for the front of it a set of the big Wilwoods that were on special recently but am checking their legality b4 fitting them.It has the FM chassis rails and butterfly braces, and a carbring front strut brace. I fitted but later removed aftermarket adjustable camber arms after my tyre bill blew out…4000ks from a set of RT 615s is too expensive! I will get Mania to put in a new alloy radiator and an FM cooling reroute with the 1800 engine…maybe next week ( mid Sept 2012)with a bit of luck.
