Quiet traditionally hasn’t been the word used to describe the machines made to conquer Pikes Peak, but as Unplugged Performance's Tesla Model 3 shows, it’s quickly becoming the new norm.

Famed driver Randy Pobst was tasked with getting the Tesla to the top of the mountain as quickly as possible, finishing second in class after an off-course incident during practice cast doubts on the team’s effort to take the green flag.

It may as well be a fact of life: Race cars get dirty thanks to all the tire gunk and insect remains that stick like super glue during high-speed runs.

If you're anything like us, you loathe having to spend time washing the whole car after an event. Thankfully, Robertson Racing has a few products that make cleaning a track machine like our Corvette Z06 project car as simple as a quick detail—and they're even gentle enough to not damage all our pretty vinyl. Sure, the Mazda Miata may be "the answer," but does that logic still apply when the tarmac disappears? We used that question as a good enough reason to enter a Miata with a Paco Motorsports lift kit in the 2020 Gambler 500 Florida.

Did our safari-style Miata survive the wilds of Florida? You'll have to watch the video to find out. Presented by CRC Industries.

Video: Start Your Morning With a Visit to Turbo Tara’s Burnout Pit

Turbo TaraGRM friend and contributor–has a varied stable that includes this 1963 Dodge 440 Ramcharger drag car tribute. Power comes from a 440 topped with four down-draft Webers. It runs mid-11s.

She also has a burnout pit. “After my shop was built out back, we had to have concrete poured in front of it anyway, so we measured and placed two wood blocks in the wet concrete so the metal tie-down rings would be inset,” she explains. “A burnout in the morning is more effective than caffeine. Also, sticky rubber flakes make great custom garage door decor.”

Video: Like Drag Racing, but up the Side of a Sand Dune
Posted by Colin Wood on Aug. 27, 2020, 1:22 p.m. https://www.youtube.com/embed/f0YVhEz-oC0

According to the title and description of the video, this is what is known as sand hill racing. Taking place in the United Arab Emirates, the name of the game seems to be pretty similar to traditional drag racing: big engines, forced induction and a healthy helping of nitrous. The only differences? Trucks and SUVs are the weapons of choice, and instead of a flat strip of tarmac, the lane is a sand dune with a slope up to 50 degrees.

Of course, that begs the question: What crazy off-road vehicle would you show up with?

Video: Is Subaru Power in a Porsche 914 Considered Blasphemy?
Posted by Colin Wood on Aug. 25, 2020, 3:39 p.m. https://www.youtube.com/embed/a_dlt5cm5H0

Although engine swaps can be a fun (albeit challenging) way to add more power to a car, is dropping in a modern Japanese engine into a classic Porsche considered blasphemy?

Perhaps, but trading one flat-four engine with another has to count for something, right?

Video: How To Transport Ice From Norway to the Sahara–Without Refrigeration
Posted by Colin Wood on Aug. 24, 2020, 12:26 p.m. https://www.youtube.com/embed/I2J1c1RWUak

In 1959, Radio Luxemburg set out a challenge that anyone who could deliver three tons of ice from the Arctic Circle to the Equator—a journey of roughly 6200 miles, depending on the route—would receive a reward of nearly $5.3 million. If that wasn't tricky enough, there was also one important stipulation: no refrigeration was allowed.

Sure enough, a Norwegian company that produced insulation products rose up to the challenge. After hearing that someone was going to take up its quest, however, Radio Luxembourg quickly retracted its proposition. In response, the insulation company turned the contest into a publicity stunt, using the giant ice block to preserve medicine destined for an African hospital.

Video: Is It Possible to Live With an `80s Ferrari?

Many have said that the Ferrari 328 GTS, even with its sharp "Magnum, P.I." looks, is one of the easier-to-live-with models from Ferrari.

To test those claims, we got ourselves a genuine 328 GTS and drove it around the streets of Daytona Beach to see how it holds up in modern times. Presented by CRC Industries.
