Video: Why NASCAR Shifted Away From Short Tracks
Posted by Colin Wood on July 27, 2020, 12:48 p.m. https://www.youtube.com/embed/PFYSEz0umcY

When it comes to NASCAR, the sentiment that "rubbin' is racing" is pretty popular in today's races. But that wasn't always the case.

In the late '90s, short tracks were beginning to fall out of favor, largely because of their inability to hold large fields of cars and also due to a rise in what some in the sport called "unprofessional racing." The alternative, then, was a shift away from short tracks and to "cookie-cutter" circuits like the tri-oval layout at Daytona.

Do you think short tracks have a place in modern NASCAR, or is the upcoming use of road courses the best path going forward?

If you like things in miniature scale as much as we do, then you'll enjoy this close-up look at how a tiny, three-speed transmission functions on a high-powered RC car.

Said to be originally equipped with a two-stroke engine capable of 38,000 rpm, this RC car now has a V4 engine under its shell.

Since we have both here in the fleet, we asked which we’d prefer if we only had the means for one. Our panel includes Editorial Director David S. Wallens and Product Director J.G. Pasterjak. Presented by CRC Industries.

Finding a tire that is the best of both worlds—aggressive handing for the track and civil manners for the street—may sounds like a tall order, but we found a good balance in the new Yokohama ADVAN Apex V601.

That's why we put a set on our 986 Boxster S project car, a capable track car that is also comfortable enough to drive to work every day. Presented by CRC Industries.

Video: The Science Behind Penetrating Lubricants
Posted by Chris Tropea on July 21, 2020, 3:16 p.m. https://www.youtube.com/embed/Ad7_ALEOrmA

Penetrating lubricants may seem like magic sauces that loosen even the most stubborn of rusty, frozen or otherwise seized bolts, but the fact is that some serious science is going on when you douse that bolt in lubricant.

To better illustrate how penetrating lubricants work, we grabbed a can of CRC Freeze-Off Super Penetrant and created a few experiments to show what's really going on. Presented by CRC Industries.

Video: Too Much Turbo Lag? Why Not Try Spooling It up With a 60,000 PSI Waterjet?
Posted by Colin Wood on July 20, 2020, 10:40 a.m. https://www.youtube.com/embed/xW1HUEnhKEQ

If something absolutely must be cut in half, a waterjet is one of the best ways to accomplish that. But what if you have a turbocharger you want to quickly spool up? Can a waterjet effectively eliminate turbo lag?

Thankfully, some good folks with a waterjet of their own tested that out so we don't have to. You know, for science™.

After nine films (and a 10th said to be on the way), the Fast & Furious franchise has a habit of outdoing itself when it comes to outrageous stunts. For one reason or another, Dominic Toretto seems to find himself in the center of these wild escapades.

And to think, it all started with a few street racers stealing some Panasonic VCRs.

Do you have a favorite scene from the franchise? What about your favorite car?
