Not just a Civic with a VW 1.8T, but a mid-engine, VR6-powered Integra, too | Video

Sometimes the best car builds live outside of the box. Take, for example, these VW-powered Honda products: A “Harlequin” Civic with a 1.8T under the hood and an Integra with a VR6 placed in the middle.

Do these cars make sense? Not particularly, but we’ll always tip our GRM hats (available now in the GRM store) to any build that goes against the norm.

I was asked in job interview once: "Did you have a go kart or a mini bike when you were a youngin"? After the interview I asked the Interviewer what that question was about and he said "People that work on their own stuff are better at mechanical design and engineering than those who don't".

One of my strongest rules for hiring an ME is if they tinker on their own stuff or not.

Also, I enjoy seeing builds like this because I know I'll eventually get there with my own mid-engine build.

DeeShrimp! I've tried to get him on here a few times, he's local to me and a fabricator at an excellent shop near BWI. If he were ever to decide to do a challenge build, it would be worthy of the competition.

Is NOTHING sacred?  Just WHAT do they think they were trying to accomplish?

I LIKE IT!!!!!

Since I found it, I have avoided your build after the first time I saw what was up. Delicious rabbit hole that I cannot fall into right now. I love mid-engined cars and am currently working towards a dream front engine/rear transaxle build. That is a compliment really.

Really neat. Wondering though if the engine choice would scare away potential buyers, or just keep the iodiots at bay. I think the latter. If you sell a car like that, the cringe worthy morons would be rife, but the real buyers that would show would be the type that take a look underneath and then say "alright it's weird enough for me, load it up."

I always wanted to do a midships DC Integra.

I'm not blasphemed by the VW engine, but I would have used a V6 Honda / Acura donor instead.
