What looks like a first-year 911, sounds like a first-year 911, and drives like a first-year 911? That’s right, the Porsche 901.

The Petersen Automotive Museum gives us an in-depth look at one of the very first 911s—an example from 1964—and explains why it is one of only a handful with a “901” designation.

Interesting video.

I recall one owner of a 901 back in the 1980s - I met him racing at Portland and he was moaning about damaging an engine  and needing to somehow stitch it back together again as it carried numbers that identified it as a 901.   Given the value of really early 901/911s today, I hope he was successful in the repairs!
