That is an amazing color and a stunning interior.
A Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe ticks nearly all of the boxes: fast, composed, comfortable and stately. We recently spent time in the top-of-the-line AMG S63 Coupe.
This time we visited the non-AMG version, the all-wheel-drive S560 4Matic. The standard engine is a twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V8 backed by a nine-speed automatic.
On a recent trip to the Northeast, we were lucky enough to sample the new Mercedes S560 4Matic Coupe. This all-wheel-drive coupe is Mercedes’ answer to an all-out luxury tourer.
With a base price of $124,500 and over $25,000 worth of options, including a $3250 “Porcelain/Deep Blue Exclusive Nappa leather” interior package, there are cheaper ways to get around.
That said, last time we drove a S560 4-Matic, we drove through a blizzard. This time around we had to drive through the most rain the Northeast has gotten in year. Again, the 4-Matic system dealt with the wretched conditions and delivered us safely to our destinations.
This car is truly world class, when it comes to comfort and performance. A 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with 463 horsepower, and 516 lb.-ft. of torque motivates this rather large and heavy car from zero to 60 in just 4.6 seconds.
No matter how wealthy and important you are, that is probably as fast as you will ever have to go. Still, if you need to get somewhere quicker, Mercedes is there to help with an even more powerful AMG version of this car. From a comfort standpoint, virtually nothing can compete. The ride is whisper-smooth and occupants are coddled to the point of insanity with heated massaging seats, and a stereo system that is better than most concert halls.
When pressed into Sport mode and pushed around corners, the S560 takes on a whole new personality and moves its girth around in surprising fashion.
We can confirm with quite a bit of certainty that those who buy the S560 4Matic will arguably own the best luxury coupe we have ever driven.
We are also sure if the sun starts to hide behind the clouds and all hell breaks loose, you could not ask for a better tool to still get you home safely.
Mercedes seems to be offering a coupe for pretty much any taste and price point right now. Wild to see that the S coupe you tested costs as much as three and a half C-Class coupes or four and a half CLAs. The AMG is the only one that gets me excited.
