How’s that $2000 Challenge build going? What’s that, you haven’t started yet? What if we told you that the 2023 Grassroots Motorsports $2000 Challenge presented by Tire Rack is now only three months away?
In case you forgot or you’re new to these parts, the key to the $2000 Challenge is in the name–the goal is to build a race car that’s equally adept at autocross, drag racing and concours judging for no more than $2000.
Impossible, you say? Just take a look at some of our former winners, like a turbo V8-powered BMW 528e, a free Bradly GT body mated to a Ford Panther chassis and even a Subaru 360 modified into a Le Mans-style prototype racer.
We’ll also once again allow the entry of cars built for more than $2000 to find out if money actually equals speed.
The annual low-buck competition returns to Gainesville Raceway in Gainesville, Florida, but for 2023 we have an all-new date: May 27-28.
Not ready to compete this year? Don’t sweat it, as the $2000 Challenge is open to spectators, plus there’s also a swap meet, model car concours, Hagerty Cars & Caffeine and even an open track day at the Florida International Rally and Motorsport Park after the $2000 Challenge on May 29.
Full details about the Grassroots Motorsports $2000 Challenge presented by Tire Rack can be found at 2000challenge.com.
The Grassroots Motorsports $2000 Challenge is presented by Tire Rack, in association with CRC Industries and Miller Electric, with trophies from Lamin-X, TrakkRats, CravenSpeed and ACI Automotive & Performance.
