Here all this time I've been throwing them into two drawers labeled "abrasives, coarse" and "abrasives, fine" underneath the drawer that houses rasps and other such implements. That drawer is labeled "Lord of the Files."

Tired of fumbling to find the right grit of sandpaper or sanding disc? This neat trick, courtesy of longtime racer Win Smith, might be just what you’re looking for.
“I used that file box just to throw my sandpaper sheets into,” Win says. “I had a box of hanging folders that were new and I thought surely, I could find a use for them rather than throw the folders away. I had gotten tired of digging through the box to find the grit I needed. I finally put one plus one together.”
This is the result. Hanging folders, neatly labeled, with the appropriate grit sandpaper within them. Blue folders are for sheets, yellow folders for discs.
No more fumbling through layers and layers of the wrong grit sandpaper. Now, Win will have more time to dedicate to making his two road-racing stock cars even faster.

Our in house file cabinet got 'hand-me-down'ed to the shop when we moved... I wasn't sure what it was going to get used for, but now I'm definitely stealing this idea!
Look up Camco Pop A Napkin. I used to have about 5 of these under the workbench at my old garage to keep 5" round abrasives.
