My favorite WIN ad of all time .

Win ads used to be such a big part of our sport.
Just googling “Richard Petty win ads” brought back a slew of vintage magazine ads from major companies like STP, Champion, Ford, Plymouth and Pure Oil.
These firms saw that winning on Sunday sold on Monday.
Among today’s press releases received here at GRM: Tom O’Gorman Earns Sixth National Championship on Bridgestone Potenza RE-71RS Tires.

The release–the usual containing photos and text–came from Bridgestone’s American arm.
Tom has been part of the GRM extended family for years. He’s been to our events, on our pages and in our videos. There’s a good chance you’ve paddocked next to him–or walked the course together.
So, back to that release: During last week’s Tire Rack SCCA Solo National Championships, Tom claimed his sixth national championship in an F Street Camaro wearing Bridgestone Potenza RE-71RS tires and carrying the tire maker’s livery.
And Bridgestone, consistently one of the world’s largest tire manufacturers, sent out a release about that fact.
I do remember the Chevrolet and Ford win ads in the USA Today during the 1990s after they scored a NASCAR Cup race victory. I might have saved a few of those.
Not an ad, but my dad used to say "well, Jackie Stewart drives a Ford."
Kid-me thought "that's cool!"
Older-me realized the joke he made comparing the Ford Cosworth DFV motors in the Tyrrell F1 cars ... and the 200ci straight six motor in whatever family rust-box we had at the time.
Why stop at a print ad when you can film a full 30 second TV spot?

Recently I've come to realize just how much racing advertising influenced my purchasing in the 60s-70s-80s. I was a Shell gas, Champion Spark Plug, Kendall Oil, Goodyear Tire, etc. bigot.
