What’s more rad than an E36 BMW or a wagon? How about an E36 BMW wagon?

This Euro-spec, 5-speed BMW 328i Touring has already gone through the trouble of being imported into the United States and now comes with a clean Georgia title.

Fitted from the factory with the M Sport Package and the M Sport suspension, the BMW also features a few modifications. Among them are 17-inch Style 32 wheels, a Blaupunkt Madrid head unit and a steering wheel refinished with Alcantara.

Find this 1997 BMW 328i Touring up for auction from Cars & Bids.

Do I still need it if I already have one?  cheeky

BTW, that seller has an excellent rep on C&B for BMW Tourings... yes

I think that'd meet the definition of unicorn.

In reply to Colin Wood :

There was one for sale up in Jax at a fair price. It was tempting.

That’s good to hear as I have been checking them out. The big question: Would I be happy with an E36 Touring instead of the E46 M3?

You would once you swap an s54 in! A BMW Touring with an s54 is a dream car for me. :)

I dreampt of and ended up with a Mcompact because the US didn't get E36 wagons. If we did I would have been searching for an M3Wagon. I guess a 328 with M3 cams could suffice!

Hard to say... depends on what you want it to be.  The Touring will not be as sharp as the M, and be down on power, but it's a really nice real world car.  The M Sport suspension is pretty much 'just right' for a street car if a bit on the soft side for canyon runs.  Mine is the 2.0l (148hp), so power to weight about like an NA8 Miata, but the torque lets it run pretty effortlessly with modern traffic.  The 2.8L has about 40hp on mine, which would honestly be pretty nice.

I have a couple other projects on the front burner, but an E46 330 donor car is something I'm keeping an eye out for...  I don't think the ROI on an E46 M engine swap is worth the extra expense for the street.  S52 would be nice, but are iron blocks, unlike my current Euro engine, and the 330 is close to the same power level.

Be aware that OEM replacements for Touring M Sport suspension appear to be NLA.  Sedan parts will bolt on, but the spring/damping rates are different.  If you want to lower it, or put on coilovers, there's lots of options, but not if you want stock replacement.

More motivation... wink

Wow.  I used to have an E39 528iT and I LOVED that car.  One of the few that I regret selling.  This one is only a few miles from my house too...

I checked his previous auctions, he's brought in quite a few of them.  It seems like the market for e36 tourings in the US hasn't really taken off yet so it may be a good time to get one.  I'm still lusting over the idea of an e30 325iX touring, but I think the time has passed to be able to find a good one for a price I'm willing to pay.
