A racing series that only allows unmodified cars fresh from the showroom floor to compete? That was essentially the whole idea behind showroom stock racing.

That’s where this Toyota MR2 Turbo comes into play.

Prepared to race in 1991, the MR2 would compete in the 1992 and 1993 seasons of the IMSA Firehawk series.

After the end of the 1993 season, the car was put into storage for some 10 years before changing hands.

Today, the current owner and seller wishes to sell the car to a racer who “appreciates it for what it is, an IMSA Firehawk survivor.”

Find this 1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace with an asking price of $22,500. (The listing, however, also says that the asking price is $25,000.)

Yeah this would look really good in his shop next to his other MR2.

Raced a Showroom Stock Miata back in the late 90s and it was the most fun I've had in the entire 37 years I've been racing.

This car would be loads of fun; no need to modify it because you are keeping it period correct.

Exactly. Fresh fluids, tires, belts, etc., (assuming needed) and go run some HSR events. Love seeing these old IMSA cars. This one popped up in my FB Marketplace. Guess they’re still out there.

This would sit nicely next to the Celica race car... no, stop thinking about it.

I see these type of listings and wonder how much it would be to make it "street legal" in the sense that I could get it to events without a tow.  Unless it's already titled and technically legal.  NO STOP THINKING ABOUT IT.

Good question. If it has a VIN and a title, you’re there, right?

I mean, even if you don't race it (which you totally should), I think it's a really cool piece of history to have.

I also wonder if this is the sort of car we could be seeing soon on the concours show field...

I saw it pop up on my FB marketplace feed too. I was wondering if you guys would have seen it.

Thats a Dodge Stealth in the photo with the MR2.  That's awesome and hilarious.   I did not realize any of those were actually raced in their day.  I owned one for a few years and did a DE at Sebring with it.   It was pretty terrible.

I used my SSC Miata as a daily driver as well as racing it. LVMS is only 9 miles from my house so I'd throw the basic stuff I needed in the trunk, drive to the track and drive home.

Did I look goofy driving through town in a bone stock car wearing a drivers suit; sure but it was so much fun I didn't care.
