We’ve entered a new chapter in our LeGrand project. We have started replacing the air- and oil-cooled Kawasaki KZ1000 engine with a 2006 Kawasaki ZX10R powerplant. The ZX10 is water-cooled and features considerably more power and torque than the engine it’s replacing—on the order of 60 percent more power. Plus, the new unit weighs approximately 80 pounds less than the KZ.
Our first step is to send the ZX10R motorcycle wiring harness to [Peter D Motorsports] (http://www.peterdmotorsports.com) to be simplified for car use. We’ll also have to redo the oil pan so that it works in a car application. From there, we can test fit the engine in the chassis and start fabricating mounts.
