After months of COVID delays, project creep and various other slowdowns related to real life, our C5 Corvette Z06 finally has a running, snarling, Aviaid dry-sumped LS3.
Jesse Spiker at Spiker Motorsports did the final checks of the various important systems, and the car went on the rollers for the first time at Redline Tuning.
It dropped 459 horsepower at the wheels, an 18% loss from the flywheel horsepower reported by BluePrint Engines. That 18% loss is typical from C5 driveline friction, so we’re pretty happy with the initial tune and condition of the engine.
Next comes a chassis alignment and some actual track time. Our first trip to our official test site at the Florida International Rally & Motorsport Park probably won’t be to throw down a lap time—there’s still break-in oil in the engine and diff. But once we get some miles on the car and make sure all systems are in order, we’ll put fresh oil in and give it the beans.
